Fake news

What interests me very much about the subject is that it is now also current and developing more and more. It also raises many questions for me such as: how much influence does this have on our humanity? Can we still trust each other? Are there any advantages to fake news? What impact does it have on a national and international level? etc. When I look at myself I often believe the news I see on social media. Only recently have I been trying to look at it more critically. To see it from different sides in order to give it my own interpretation and / or meaning. In addition, I also read this advertisement that said:

'In recent decades, a true invasion of images has taken place in our daily life. With the rise of tablets and smartphones in particular of digital images. Our culture has become a digital visual culture. That is why images are regularly in the spotlight nowadays. Not only to illustrate the news, but also as a subject.'

This text takes a closer look at fake news: when seeing is no longer believing.

The photo above is a hilarious example. On the left you see a thief that the police are looking for and on the right you see the actor David Schwimmer, better known as Ross from the television series Friends. It went viral on social media that it had to be David on the left, but it wasn't him. He responds to this on Twitter with the message 'It couldn't have been me, because I was in New York at the time', accompanied by a staged CCTV video from a supermarket, in which he also went down the aisle with a sagging tray of beer. trudges and stares brutally into the camera. Ultimately, the thief was arrested and David helped.

Comments video Naomi
‘I think the video is actually very aesthetic - it gives intimacy into something that feels maybe “private”, it makes it feel first-person - i think when talking/showing things that happen on the internet, it is quite a strong decision to make a video that shows a screen like this’

‘You also can’t see the url of the website for most of the video. That’s also something that happens on the internet a lot. You don’t know and can’t track where the information came from’

‘right more lo fi rather than super stylized (which at some point can loose its meaning)’

‘the only time i have seen peple filming their screen like this before is on YouTube exposed or apology videos when they want to prove that they didnt edit their tweets’
